This is my new blog space. I will update it as much as possible with my latest views on all things relating to Cardiff City. I know that our reputation as a club over the years hasn't been the best with our history of violence and hooliganism but I hope that this blog will transform your views. I want you all to see how the majority of us are actually passionate and committed football fans who support their team in the most proud manner.
I'll start the blog by touching upon the Cardiff versus Celtic friendly last night that opened the new stadium. It was built up as the 'official opening' of our brand spanking new stadium but, to be honest, it didn't appeal to me. I've never been a fan of the friendly games. Why is this? It's got nothing to do with not being bothered to support my team or a reluctance to fork out the money for a ticket. It's something slightly more emotional than that.
For years I've been a bit negative towards friendly games. This is for one main reason. Anticipation. For me, the opening day of the new league season is like Christmas as a kid. I wait excitedly for months for this day and the week leading up to the first Saturday of the Football League season I am like a kid on a sugar rush. To me, attending the friendlies is like your family arranging a Christmas Day meal without the food and without the presents. It's just not the same. I want my first experience of the new season to be mind blowing. I want my first experience of the stadium on a match day to be spine tingling. I don't want it tainted by a kick about between two teams that are more concerned with conditioning than the win. I think I'd rather watch the guys in the picture on the left with that attitude!Does this make me a less committed supporter than those that attend the friendlies? Or does it just mean I value the league games that little bit more? I don't think there's a right answer. There can't be a right answer when you're a football fan. Being a football fan is all about supporting your team in your own way. Some might criticise me for not attending the friendlies but in my eyes, that's not when my team needs me. I'll be there every Saturday cheering them on. I'll be there during the midweek freeze fests to see us grind out a disappointing 0-0 draw with Peterborough or whoever! I'll be there, as us Cardiffians say, with my little pick and shovel, I'll be there. A football club is a little bit like a family. So long as you love them and are then when they need you, that's all that counts.
Briefly touching upon the Cardiff versus Celtic friendly it seems we still don't have a midfield. This is an issue I will touch upon in future blogs. For now it escapes my wrath. Future blogs will be more concentrated on Cardiff's football issues and my views on how the club is run. I hope you stay tuned and look forward to my next instalment.
